    The History of Jeannette
    Jeannette Bottle Works
began operation in the late 1880’s in Jeannette, PA. In 1898 the company became
    Jeannette Glass Company. Jeannette
produced a vast selection of handmade bottles, jars & dishware well into the early 1900’s. The company expanded production to prism glass in 1917. Prism glass was incorporated in both business & residential structures in order to increase the light exposure from the sun. This division of the company was sold in the mid-1920. Improvements were made to the company during this time, which included converting it into a pressed glass facility. This changed allowed the company to produce depression kitchen glass & dinnerware later on which is what the company is famous for. The
    Jeannette Glass Company
hit a low point during WWII, but it was able to recover in the mid-1940’s as the war came to an end.
    Jeannette Glass Company
    purchased of the
    Thatcher Glass Manufacturing
in 1961 & were known to operate the “World’s largest electric glass furnace for melting heat-resisting glass”. In 1970, the company’s name changed to
    Jeannette Corporation
. Production ceased & the company closed in 1983.
